Easter

img_1275

well, we figured it was about time to share some Easter photos. considering the fact that we dedicated an entire evening to finding just the right outfit, jackson’s first Easter was a pretty big deal.

like many other Easters, it started with church. we dressed the little dude up, and all of us headed to the morning service together.  the scary part was that it was jackson’s first time sitting in the main sanctuary with all the “big people”. i don’t know how smart it was to make his first cameo on the busiest church day of the year. but nonetheless, we braved the crowd. and actually, jackson did pretty well. as long as there was music and people singing, he was just as happy as could be. but when the music stopped, and the preaching started, he quickly became disinterested. we packed an arsenal of tools to entertain him, but none of them seemed to do the trick. so, kelly had to politely exit the sanctuary with a very vocal and stubborn jackson. once the service ended, we all reunited outside, where i could tell jackson was much happier.

the next stop was for lunch at my parents’ house. my mom typically cooks a huge meal for Easter every year, and this one was no different. the whole family was together, and it was just the perfect afternoon. following lunch, we tried to teach jackson the art of hiding Easter eggs. but as you can imagine, he only wanted to eat them. this further justified our choice for plastic eggs. my mom had given him his very own Easter basket filled with plenty of special baby treats. but before i talk about how my mom and dad spoiled him, i guess i should mention the milk chocolate bunnies that they got for me and kell. what can i say, we have a very loving family.

all in all, i would say that jackson’s first Easter was one to be remembered. and if you want to see him all decked out in his Easter outfit, just click on the photo above.

spring festival

if you are looking for a great place to take your family, friends, and especially children, then you should come out to the annual spring festival at the johnson farm. there will be guided tours, farm animals, wagon rides, live entertainment, and plenty of food. it is happening this saturday (april 25) from 10-4, and you can learn more by clicking (here).

we will most likely have jackson out there tomorrow, so if you decide to come, we just might cross paths. he has never actually been to the farm, so it should make for an interesting afternoon. if you would like to learn more about this historical place, here is a promotional video that i recently produced for the johnson farm.

where have we been?

allow me to apologize for our lack of engaging stories here lately. things have been unusually busy, and my head has been buried in the creation of a new website for my business. well, after countless hours of design, layout, and development, it is finally here. as you know, i don’t normally talk about work on this blog, but if you’ve ever wondered what i do everyday, visit www.viewfromzero.com. this website has been a long time coming, and i am so excited to finally announce it.

along with the new site, i have also started a corresponding blog. this will be a place where i talk about business, design, music, and all of the other many things that fascinate me. of course, i will still be writing here about jackson and our family, but the business blog will give me an outlet for just that – business. so, if you enjoy reading this blog, i would love to see you on the flip side at the business blog as well. if you can, carve out some time to check out the new site. oh, and don’t worry, there is plenty of new jackson material on the way.

gun show

img_5916

last weekend, my father-in-law invited me and jackson to a gun show in asheville. now you might think it’s odd to take a 10-month-old to a gun show. well, you’re probably right. jackson doesn’t even know what a gun is. but he is a boy. and that means he automatically loves any type of weapon.

so there we were, in the midst of thousands of firearms. and while the choices seemed infinite, we left no aisle unturned. we looked at every single booth in the entire gun show. and believe it or not, jackson did great. he was grinning and pointing at everything that caught his eye. i tried explaining to him that it wasn’t proper to point at people, especially if they were wearing a gun. but that didn’t seem to stop him. he just kept charming everyone with his big smile and camoflauge pants. absolutely adorable.

but the highlight of the day came at the end. right before we left, i realized that i needed to take a picture. so, my father-in-law took jackson and held him next to a shotgun rack. by the time i turned around, jackson had already grabbed one of the shotguns from the rack. he was holding the barrel and giving his trademark mischievous grin. i don’t know who enjoyed it more, jackson or my father-in-law. the picture says it all.

follow the stepps… but not too closely

so my best friend, rebecca, stopped by my house on her daily walk with her dog, chloe,  and i invited her inside… and her little dog too ( a little too wizard of oz?… i think so).  chloe doesn’t have fleas and is very well behaved and always a welcome guest at our house.  however, because she had just been frolicking in a muddy field, beck decided we would just chat on the front porch instead.  and because our house is a little shady (and i mean that in more than one way) we decided to stand out in the yard where the sun was shining.  there we were… getting sketchy honks from the plumbing trucks and laughing about the woes of domestic life and suddenly a big plop of brown stuff hits my shoe.  i thought it was a seed pod from our blooming maple tree.  it was a seed pod, but it wasn’t from the maple tree.  actually it was from the 10 or so little birds that were roosting on the maple tree. meanwhile, beck is laughing hysterically and all i can think of is how poetic this is.  my son is not even here and i’m getting shit pooped on.  we couldn’t stop laughing… then beck gets nailed.  ah… he who laughs last, laughs best.  i love, love, love my best friend.  we have gone through everything together and i couldn’t think of anyone else i would like to get shit pooped on with than her.  the lesson here… follow the stepps, but not too closely.
